Whether you’re planning to pull a caravan, a trailer, a horse box, a boat or anything else, you need to do it safely and legally. We offer an extensive range of towbars for both current and non-current Mitsubishi’s.

The following guide will give you all the information you need to purchase the right towbar for your Mitsubishi.

Which Towbar?

Across the range you may come across the following types of towbar, so here are some key facts about each to help you find out which is right for you:

Fixed Ball Towbar

Fixed Flange Ball Towbar

Traditionally used in the UK for all serious forms of towing and generally the most cost effective option. A 50mm towball is bolted to a two or four-hole plate (vehicle dependent) that also allows the fitting of a 25mm spacer so that accessories such as a towbar-mounted cycle carrier can be used.

  • The towing height can be adjusted on commercial and 4×4 four-hole plate towbars
  • Bumper shields can be fitted
  • AL-KO towballs can be fitted
  • A choice of towing couplings and accessories can be fitted
Swan Neck Towbar

Detachable Swan Neck Towbar

Mainly used in the rest of Europe and slimmer than a flange bar, this style was the first to offer a detachable version. When fitted to ASX and Outlander, the towbar fixture is virtually invisible when the swan neck is removed. Cycle carriers are available for this type of bar.

  • Towball can be removed when not in use
  • Unrestricted access to the boot
  • AL-KO and other friction type stabilisers can be fitted

Towbar Wiring

All of our towbars are offered with a comprehensive range of towbar wiring options. These wiring options have been designed specifically to work in tandem with the advanced Mitsubishi vehicle electrics. This specialised circuitry ensures that all wiring is delivered through safe and capable channels, preventing the vehicle’s internal circuits from being overloaded.

Wiring described as ‘universal’ means that the electrics have not been optimised for the specific vehicle requirements and, with the highly complicated circuitry used in modern vehicles, this is more important than ever. Installing inappropriate towbar wiring can cause significant damage, so it is essential that only the correctly specified wiring kits be used with your vehicle.

Towbar Wiring
Single 7 Pin
Twin 7 Pin
Single 13 Pin

Single 7-Pin Electrics

This is the most common and cost effective type of connector currently used in the UK. It will fulfil all normal towing requirements under UK law and can be used with almost anything you can connect to a towbar. This will control all rear lights with the exception of reversing lights and fog lamps. However, these are unlikely to fit caravans built after September 2008.

Twin 7-Pin Electrics Kit

This is a supplementary connector to be combined with single 7-pin kits that can supply a caravan, horse box or tipper trailer with a switched and permanent twelve-volt power supply. It also contains an extra earth supply and a reverse light facility. For caravan users this is normally required if you wish to charge the battery and power the fridge when travelling.

Single 13-Pin Electrics

For caravans built after September 2008 you will most likely require a 13-pin electrical socket. This socket contains all the functionality of twin 7-pin electrics but has the added benefit of being watertight and has twist-fit locking mechanism which ensures full pin contact. This design is also the most widespread throughout Europe and is likely to become more and more prevalent. For Series 5 L200 we have we have introduced a basic 13-Pin wiring kit for customers who need the option to have a feed for items such as reverse lights etc. But do not need power for extra auxiliary items such as fridges. A 13-Pin upgrade extension kit is also available for customers requiring full function power for fridge etc.

Why buy from us

When searching for the best deal, price pays a big part in many people’s decision making. However, understanding what you are getting for that price is very important. Universal parts may seem attractive, but they’re not the same products as the parts that we offer.

Our parts and accessories have many advantages over similar products that you may see advertised elsewhere. Perhaps the most significant of these advantages is the considerable investment that has gone into the research and development of our parts, in order to ensure that they meet our stringent safety requirements and satisfy our high standards of quality control.

Part failures can cause significant damage to vehicles. It is important to note that any vehicle damage that is sustained due to the failure of a part or accessory that was not sold by us will not be covered by the vehicle’s warranty. Towbars are no exception to this (our parts come with a 3-year warranty when fitted to a new vehicle). When purchasing a towbar from us, not only are you purchasing the part, you are also purchasing the peace of mind that comes with it.

When considering the additional safety and quality benefits, as well the added warranty security, it’s clear that our parts and accessories are not only a smart purchase, they are also very good value.
